Week 14/15 (Module 7/8)
As a retrospective on our work from the beginning of the class, the first full calorie Hangman assignment definitely seems less intimidating now. Looking back at the assignment and seeing how I might change it, the first thing that comes to mind is splitting the class into multiple classes, perhaps one class for each action I'm trying to do for the program.
I feel like I have a lot of small victories now--enough time and practice has definitely improved confidence in Java. I went into the class knowing very little, and felt like I was on my back foot a lot of the time. I was finally able to squeeze some practice time in during these later weeks. I kept going through a cycle of feeling caught up, then being slammed with some new concept that felt like a setback.
Extending classes (a la stormtrooper subtypes), Java style in general versus C++, utilizing getters and setters to streamline a lot of tasks/activities--all basic things I feel a lot more confident with. There are a couple of projects in this class that I think I'll want to expand upon. I'm a big ol dnd nerd, so I think it would be fun to build upon the dnd combat simulator. I think I will probably find some things there that I implemented and heavily relied on the internet for, but perhaps without the time-crunch pressure and my extended experience, I'll find it easier to build upon it. Loot? Xp? An initiative system? The possibilities...
